Hunting Rifle
Here is my hunting rifle. Can anybody tell me what it is? It is a classic. My father and grandfather both owned it before me. A lot of game have been killed with this puppy. I plan to get me a bear with it. I grew up shooting this rifle and am a good shot with it.

There should be some markings on the barrel that run parallel to it. They may be down near the edge of the wood. It looks like an old Winchester Model 94, probably in 30-30. Great brush gun for deer hunting where you don’t get long distance shots.

I can only hope that you weren’t serious about that comment about the bear unless your insurance is paid up.

The 30-30 is fully capable of taking a Bear, Providing it is a Black Bear to which you are refering. In this age of Ultra Magnums, people often think you need Elephant guns to take deer, this simplyl isn’t so.

Yep, it is a .30-30 saddle model 94. Actually has a low serial number and I found out a while back that it was manufactured in 1900. Has very little rust and in great condition. The stock has a little gouge in it.
I am a pretty good shot with it and am confident I could drop a Maine black bear with one shot. I may shoot another for effect.
Richard, you are right, that saddle gun will drop a bear, a deer, you name it.
